Reducing the Risks Related to IVF

The fact that IVF is the most efficacious and sought-after fertility treatment is indisputable. It also has the best success-rate among all fertility treatments. Hence, couples who opt for IVF Treatment in Delhi have humongous expectations. At times, these expectations are borne out of half-baked understanding of IVF or lack of knowledge. It is quite essential that couples must be aware of nature of IVF so that they only harbour reasonable expectations. Hence, both IVF Doctors and couples must address and reduce the risks related to IVF.

Risks of two types must be addressed: Technical/Medical and Mental/Emotional. Major medical risks are Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) and Multiple Pregnancy. However, these medical risks can be effectively eliminated by proficient and perceptive IVF Doctors. For example, choosing Single Embryo Transfer (SET) eliminates the risks of Multiple Pregnancies.

The emotional risks related to IVF are more challenging and exacting. As stated above, one of the perils of IVF is unreasonably exaggerated expectations. Couples must understand that IVF does not guarantee 100% success even if it is the most formidable fertility treatment. It means that IVF cycles fails too at times. Couples who have exaggerated expectations and are not aware of reality feel dispirited and despondent when IVF cycle fails. The dejection takes its toll on their married lives. Many couples don't even attempt another IVF cycle. That is why doctors must prepare couples in advance and tell them in detail about dynamics of IVF.

Many times, IVF cycle succeeds in second attempt. One can remain sane and think rationally only if one is aware about fundamentals of IVF and is prepared to face any outcome.

Fasting and Fertility

Diet occupies an important place in fertility domain. What ones eats and does not eat have a big impact on fertility quotient. That is why it is essential to be discreet about intake in body. Fasting has emerged as one of the potent instruments to expedite fertility. Just like our home and office need regular cleaning, our body is no different. It is absolutely paramount to rid body of all gratuitous and noxious elements that accumulate over a period of time.

Fasting is a tool to detoxify body and cleanse it to the hilt. Detoxification and cleansing of body are a stepping stone to fertility. When body is totally clean of noxious elements and one starts taking in healthy stuff like fruit juices, Carrots, peas, sweet potatoes etc., the immune system of body is strengthened. These are the kind of edibles which are usually taken by women during fast and they all are fertility-friendly ones too.

IVF Clinics in India also recommends consuming guavas, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, orange and strawberries during fast in order to get pregnant quickly. They all are rich in vitamin 'C' and are considered by IVF Doctors to be supremely conducive for fertility. Navratra is a festival of immense devotion and divinity. Fasting during this festive season and having right edibles can increase your happiness manifold. The occasion seems opportune to fulfill your dreams.

Hence, fasting serves many purposes. It is a manifestation of one’s faith in God and at the same time, it is also an opportunity to detoxify your body and boost fertility prowess.

Pelvic Pain among Infertile Women

Pelvic pain occurs in the lower front of the abdomen, below the umbilicus (belly button). Pelvic pain sometimes arises due to problems with the female reproductive organ. Young women who are in their reproductive age often cop pelvic pain as well as issues related to infertility. In many cases, women experience both at the same time. Hence, they’re often in a dilemma which one to treat first.

Problems with the reproductive system that can cause chronic pain
  • Endometriosis. This is when the tissue lining the inside of the uterus starts growing outside of the uterus.
  • Adenomyosis. This is when the lining in the uterus starts growing into the uterine muscle.
  • Noncancerous (benign) tumors of the uterus, such as fibroids or polyps.
It is tad tricky to decide for IVF Clinics in Noida and for any IVF Specialist in Noida to tell patients which affliction they must cure first as each patient has her own priority/preference. So the best thing to do is to make them aware about the nitty-gritty and details about both the treatment.

If women opt for fertility treatment first, it means that problem of pelvic pain would most likely be automatically taken care of. It means that if fertility treatment turns out to be successful, pelvic pain would be treated in the process. Hence, it is recommended to choose fertility treatment.

Another benefit of opting for fertility treatment is that it saves precious time. Women who choose to treat pelvic pain first through medical therapies like danazol, birth control pills or Lupron usually have their pain allayed but they do lose out on time.

Time is an important factor in fertility treatment and treatment must begin as soon as the problem is diagnosed. This is because infertility is degenerative and festers rapidly and that makes treatment even more difficult. On the other hand, there is no such urgency when it comes to pelvic pain and moreover, as mentioned above, successful fertility treatment most likely soothes pelvic pain too.

It is completely up to discretion and priority of patients which treatment to opt for. Fertility Specialists can only lucidly inform them about benefits and repercussions.

Uterine Fibroids – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Benign tumours of muscular & fibrous tissue which originate excessively on uterus (womb) are called Fibroids. They are also known as uterine myomas, leiomyomas, or fibromas. Fibroids are almost always non-malignant (non-cancerous). But these clumps sometimes are unusually huge and can cause splitting abdominal pain and heavy periods. According to National Institutes of Health (NIH) - almost 70% to 80% women have Fibroids by the time they become 50-year-old.

Women who are likely to attain menopause are more vulnerable to contract Fibroids because they are open to huge levels of estrogen for an elongated period.

Causes of Uterine Fibroids
The precise and concrete reasons are still debatable but there is a string of facets which results into Uterine Fibroids according to historical data:
  • Genetic Changes
  • Hormonal Disorders
  • History of Family
  • Ethnicity
  • Obesity
  • Eating Habits
Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids
It is important to note that different women show different symptoms when it comes to Uterine Fibroids. While some show subdued symptoms; others might experience no symptoms. In some cases, women display exceedingly potent and irritable symptoms.
  • Unusually long menstrual periods
  • Excessive bleeding during menstrual periods
  • Pelvic pain
  • Abnormally persistent urination
  • Pain during sex
  • Pain in lower abdomen
Chances of Pregnancy in Uterine Fibroids
There are many women who are able to conceive naturally and easily despite having Fibroids. So we can say that in most of the cases, Fibroids are not detrimental to pregnancy and fertility. But, at times, fibroids — especially submucosal fibroids — can cause infertility or pregnancy loss. Submucosal and intramural fibroids can distort the shape and size of uterine cavity andincrease the risk of problems pertaining to pregnancy. Once these fibroids are eradicated, women can conceive and get pregnant. Intramural fibroids that do not indent the cavity appear to decrease fertility and increase the miscarriage rate but studies are inconclusive. There is no evidence that subserous fibroids interfere with conception or increase the miscarriage rate.

Uterine Fibroid Treatment
There are various Fertility Treatments which are posited by IVF Clinics in India. Following are the best Uterine Fibroid Treatments Fertility Experts recommend:

a) Medications – If the problem is not grave, doctors can prescribe medications to regulate women’s hormone levels which reduce Fibroids.

b) Myomectomy – This surgery is instrumental in removing uterine fibroids without eliminating healthy tissues of the uterus. This treatment is beneficial for women who want to get pregnant after the surgery.

c) Minimally Invasive Procedures – These cutting-edge procedures are carried out by ultra-modern laser equipment which decimate Fibroids.

Spirituality during Infertility Treatment

Undergoing infertility treatment can be a taxing and emotionally enervating experience. To begin with, when people's dream of becoming parents is in jeopardy and they're facing severe mental issues, they tend to get tad dejected and melancholic. Some people have little or no knowledge about infertility treatments and that leaves them in a daze. The couples facing fertility issues have to grapple with a lot of issues - medical, social to emotional.

Amidst this sea of gloom and nervousness, they need a succour to hold onto. Spirituality is a rich and resourceful source of positive energy and resonance that helps them to deal with all these hassles with composure and spunk. It also comes in handy and soothing their frayed nerves and providing them emotional tranquility and equanimity. The mental and emotional equilibrium is eminently essential to encounter travails of infertility treatment.

One needs to be in right frame of mind to fully understand the dynamics and intricacies of the infertility treatment. Also, you have to deal with IVF Doctors and interact with them on a regular basis. It is also a medically proven fact that being terminally gloomy and sad can have a bad effect on fertility prowess. Being calm and upbeat increase the chances of success of infertility treatment.

This is the reason that fertility centers in India encourage people to indulge in Spirituality to discard negative thoughts and embrace positivity. Also Spirituality helps one to feel close to God and develop faith in his powers. These sentiments have a tangible value and help practitioners immensely.

Surrogacy in Case of Miscarriage

The most common cause of miscarriage is genetic abnormality in fetus that prevents the birth of defected baby. The chances of genetic abnormality in eggs of older women are more than in younger women; hence they (older women) are more susceptible to miscarriage. So genetic in eggs which result in defected embryos is the main reason behind miscarriage. In most of the cases of miscarriage, uterus remains completely salutary and normal.

However, patients start thinking otherwise especially if more than one miscarriage happens. They start assuming that since they are able to get pregnant is an indication that the quality of their eggs is top-flight. Since they also have regular menstrual cycle and status of ovarian reserve is also healthy, they start believing that problem lies with uterus, not eggs.

This assumption leads them to opt for Surrogacy because of their misplaced and faulty belief that their uterus is incapable of holding eggs beyond 8 weeks. It does not even occur to many women that the fact that they’ve been able to get pregnant because of successful embryo implantation is a conclusive proof of their uterus being totally fine. Opting for Surrogacy and changing the uterus is of no use as the problem lies with eggs, not the uterus.

Women who have multiple miscarriages are often at their lowest ebb emotionally and mentally. Some of them even develop paranoia and abysmally low self-esteem. That is where the role of Fertility Experts of Best Fertility Clinics in India comes into picture. They must inform patients about the real cause of miscarriages and also lend emotional succor. Moreover, they must advise patients to opt for either donor eggs or donor embryos, not Surrogacy. Surrogacy is an elaborate and often an expensive procedure, and is suitable for women who have damaged or no uterus. For women who have absolutely salutary and healthy uterus, donor eggs or donor embryos are much better options.

Frozen Embryos or Fresh Embryos - Which are better?

There are a lot of IVF patients who are curious to know what kinds of embryos are more conducive for successful treatment – Frozen Embryos or Fresh Embryos. Till a few years, the answer would have been eminently straight-forward and simple. Traditionally, fresh embryos were deemed more conducive for implantation and hence successful IVF Treatment. Also, in the past, the mechanism of freezing and thawing embryos was not fully evolved and hence did not produce great results. The whole process was tad slow and time-consuming which used to reflect poorly on quality of embryos.

But technological advancements in recent years have taken rapid strides and now the option of opting for frozen embryos is gaining enormous traction. There are many reasons behind this changing trend. When it comes to conventional fresh embryos implantation, hormonal injects are used for superovulation which can damage uterine lining and is not optimally receptive for implantation. This is the biggest reason why patients are now opting for frozen embryos because uterine lining is optimally receptive for implantation which enhances the chances of pregnancy.

The embryos are now frozen through vitrification method which preserves the quality of embryos. IVF cycle through frozen embryos is not only cost-effective and more fruitful but is also less stressful as it entails only a couple of scans. These are the reasons behind its phenomenal popularity among IVF patients.

However, patients must keep in mind to choose Best IVF Clinics in India for this mechanism as it requires sterling finesse of dexterous doctors and cutting-edge laboratory with ultra-modern equipment.

Why Practice of Embryo Donation Must be Encouraged

Embryos are cornerstone of IVF Treatment. The chances of success cranks up significantly if the quality of embryo is stellar. For an embryo to be of robust quality, the eggs of female partner and sperm of male partner have to be sturdy. The couples grappling with fertility issues often find it difficult to have an embryo of good quality. That is why Top Fertility Clinics in Delhi and all over India must encourage the practice of embryo donation so that couples who are not able to produce top-hole embryos can benefit and fulfill their dreams of parenthood.

More often than not the IVF cycle of couples who produce robust embryos turns out to be successful. To be on the safer side, most IVF Clinics in India have more than one embryo for couples undergoing the treatment. So usually after the each cycle, there are few leftover embryos of good quality. It is entirely up to couples what they wish to do with these embryos. They can either get them frozen if they wish to have another child later or dispose them or donate them.

Donation of embryos rather than disposing them would lit up the lives of other couples who cannot have top-notch embryos for the IVF cycle. It is a very noble and thoughtful deed to donate embryos to infertile couples so that they can also savour joy of having a child. Helping someone gives you a lot of satisfaction and happiness.

One must consult IVF Specialists and give consent in written if they want to donate their embryos.

Busting 3 Infertility Myths

There are a lot of myths pertaining to infertility which are prevalent among common people. These myths not only misguide people but eventually also prove to be an obstacle to Infertility Treatment. That is why it’s exceedingly essential to bust these myths so that people are not short changed. Top IVF Doctors in India must also take an initiative and organize camps to guide people about infertility and spread awareness among them.

Here are 3 biggest myths about infertility:
  1. Infertility is women-specific: This still remains the biggest myth about infertility. Many folks still think that only women can be afflicted with infertility. The truth, however, is that women are responsible for 35% of infertility cases, while men also stand at 35. In 20% cases, both partners are responsible and remaining 10% cases are of unexplained infertility.
  2. Only relaxing can get you pregnant: This is another common myth about infertility. A lot of people think that stress is sole reason behind infertility and relaxing would ensure pregnancy. The reality is that infertility can be because of medical and technical problems as well. And one needs to visit Fertility Specialist for treatment.
  3. Infertility cannot be cured: Despite living in this information age, there are still many people, especially in rural areas, who think that infertility is not curable and look at it (infertility) as some form of curse. They must be made aware through campaigns and camps that infertility is perfectly curable and doctors posit customized treatment for specific fertility problems.

Infertility is not a Women-specific Problem

The most common myth about infertility which is still prevalent is that infertility is only related to women. Whenever the issue of infertility comes up, the first instinct is to associate it with female partner. This pre-conceived notion and mindset at times are major hindrances in effectively curing infertility.

Female fertility problems may be responsible for infertility in 40 percent of couples, while other 40% of the infertility cases, problem lies with men. The remaining 20 percent of infertility cases are due to male and female factors. But since the conventional practice is to hold women responsible if couples are unable to have a baby, men are rarely put under scanner. That is why it is paramount to understand that if a couple is unable to produce a child after one year of unprotected sex; both men and women must undergo tests to determine who is infertile.

One of the major reasons behind this myth is that sexual power of men is often equated with fertility. So if a man is sexually virile, it is assumed that he cannot be infertile. This is completely untrue. Even the sexually most vigorous men can have infertility problems.

Another reason many men find it tough to come to terms with infertility is because they see it as an insult to their masculinity to undergo fertility tests. Their self-image takes a beating if they come to know that they’re infertile. They key is to be mature and open-minded and to not feel ashamed or fearful about getting the tests done. Even if you turn out to infertile, you must not feel cursed and be prepared for treatment.

When one is level-headed & composed, and doesn’t run away from accepting reality, it makes the treatment process relatively smooth and free of hassles. The ultimate objective is to savour the joys of parenthood; hence one must discard inhibitions & pre-conceived notions and seek treatment from one of the Best Fertility Clinics in India.

Fertility Specialists must also do their bit and inform couples about the dynamics & details of infertility. They must also put fears of patients to rest and help them remain calm during the treatment procedure. Some common causes of male infertility are Low sperm count, Poor sperm motility, Birth defects, Hormone problems, Illnesses or infections, Medication side effects, Varicocele, Unhealthy lifestyle entailing smoking and drug use, Injuries & physical trauma, Obesity etc.

How to Handle Morning Sickness?

Morning sickness is an annoying symptom of pregnancy that involves nausea, headaches, and vomiting during the morning. Affecting the majority of pregnant women, it generally begins during the first trimester of pregnancy and may persist throughout the pregnancy. Another disadvantage of morning sickness is that it cannot be predicted whether a woman would go through it or not.

Morning Sickness is beyond common amongst pregnant women. More than 75 percent of women experience this troublesome symptom during their pregnancies. In fact, pregnancy and morning sickness go hand in hand as per most of the world.

Nevertheless, experiencing morning sickness does not mean that women cannot combat it, say IVF experts. Doctors specializing in test tube baby treatments state that there are several ways through which women can handle morning sickness. Some of them are as follows:

Drink plenty of water –Vomiting expels a large amount of water out of the body and makes it dry and weak. Hence, it is very critical that pregnant women suffering from morning sickness and nausea consume a good amount of water all through the day to prevent dehydration. Drink fluids 1/2 hour before or after a meal, but not with meals.
  • Relax and calm down – It is understandable that in such a position, it is not easy to calm down and relax as there are numerous responsibilities that need to be handled. But health should be prioritized. Thus, take care of yourself and relax first.
  • Manage your diet – Consume healthy, organic food as much as possible. Moreover, eat timely to prevent the occurrence of flatulence or acid reflux issues. . Eat small meals often. Eat whatever you feel like eating, whenever you feel you can.
  • Ask someone else to cook for you; open the windows, or turn on fans if the odor bothers you.
  • Keep a chart of our nausea– Keep a track of when, how, how frequently or seldom your nausea surfaces. Also, note down the food items that trigger nausea. This will make it easier for you to be prepared before it attacks you and manage it better.
  • Get plenty of rest and nap during the day.
  • Avoid warm places; feeling hot adds to nausea
You should contact your doctor if:
  • If you are experiencing excessive nausea and vomiting that prevents you from keeping any food down
  • If vomiting is accompanied by pain or fever
  • If nausea and vomiting persists well into the second trimester (after 12th week)
Don’ts:
  • Do not lie down after eating.
  • Do not skip meals.
  • Do not let this condition go untreated.
  • Do not cook or eat spicy food

Can Internet be trusted for information related to Infertility?

Internet has become an effectively and widely-used platform to gather information on any subject. These days, people prefer to use ‘Google’ to find out information or insights about different topics. With the advent of smartphones & high-speed Data connections/WiFi, it has become easier, than ever before, to browse Internet.

The million dollar questions is can we trust information that is available on various websites and forums, especially in case of sensitive subjects like infertility? While Internet has undeniably made it quite easy for people to get information, there is a flip side too. Some of the forums and blogs are penned down by amateurs and quacks who don’t not have sufficient knowledge about the subject.

The consequences of trusting factually incorrect information on Internet can be extremely severe. That is why one must be careful and not trust everything that one founds on Internet. The source of information has to be trustworthy and credible.

There's a saying in Latin, caveat emptor, or "let the buyer beware." When it comes to doing your research on the Internet, the saying should be caveat internauta, or "let the surfer beware.

Hence it is paramount to comprehend which source is faulty and which is credible. The bloggers who are certified by reputed accreditation bodies usually have domain expertise and the information provided on their blogs is more likely to be accurate. Also, there are many eminent Fertility Specialists who write insightful blogs. It is better to follow write-ups of certified bloggers, noted fertility experts and reputed Fertility Centres.

But ultimately there is no better substitute than visiting top-class IVF Clinics and get first hand information from fertility experts as they dish out advice/insights after asking you relevant questions and if necessaryafter conducting few essential tests.

Premature Ovarian Failure

Premature ovarian failure or Primary Ovarian Insufficiency is a condition in which the ovaries fail to perform their functions properly. They are unable to produce the required amounts of the female fertility hormone estrogen or release good quality eggs on a regular basis. IVF doctors and test tube baby treatment experts enunciate that this condition creates problems when trying to conceive and also causes recurring miscarriages.

The symptoms experienced due to the lack of estrogen may be tackled by hormone replacement therapy. But this would not restore a woman’s fertility.

According to experts, some of the conditions that result in Premature Ovarian Failure include:
  • Any damage suffered by the ovaries due to an accident, treatments like chemotherapy or surgery.
  • If a female carries a fragile chromosome X
  • Any abnormalities or irregularities associated with the chromosomes.
  • An autoimmune disease that could affect the reproductive system
  • Other factors that could plausibly affect the ovaries adversely around the time of puberty.
The symptoms of Premature Ovarian Failure are as follows:
  • Excessive sweating at night
  • Bouts of hot flashes
  • Finding it difficult to concentrate
  • Irritability
  • Many of the symptoms are quite similar to the ones experienced at the advent of or during menopause some of which include:
  1. Vaginal Dryness
  2. Decreased sexual desire
  3. Skipped or irregular periods
The good news, however, is that this condition can be treated. The treatment of this condition generally involves primary treatment of the major problems that are the result of the lack of estrogen. Moreover, estrogen therapy and/or supplements are suggested including supplements of calcium and vitamin D. in addition, if the treatment is followed by an infertility treatment such as Insemination or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), then donor eggs may be incorporated.

Combating the psychological burden of fertility treatment

Infertility treatments easily take a toll on the patients. First of all, the stress of being unable to get pregnant even after months or years of trying then add to it the ups and downs of the infertility treatment one goes through. On top of all this, these treatments, even if done in the most successful IVF treatment clinics, do not guarantee a 100% positive result. In addition, some lucky patients might achieve amazing and successful results in their very first cycle while some may not achieve anything even after several trials.

Such a grueling journey of an infertility treatment affects a patient not just physically but mentally too. They may suffer from depression, angst, guilt, stress, hypertension and other psychological issues. However, these psychological problems can make one’s fertility even worse than it already was. In such a case, especially if the patient has been suffering from such issues before starting their treatment, they must discuss their problem with the doctor. This helps the doctor to set a better and more holistic protocol for treating the patient’s infertility that will also include combating the psychological issues.

Earlier, many experts believed that just fifty percent of infertility cases originated from physical causes. Nevertheless, the remaining remained unexplained. Also, several of these issues were considered to be caused by psychosomatic problems in women.

Statistically speaking, approximately 33.4% of the time a physiological problem is diagnosed in a female and the same amount of time in males. In close to 10% of the time, the problems are diagnosed in both partners.

Not so surprisingly, men are observed to go through the same levels of low self esteem, stigma, and depression when they are diagnosed with an infertility disorder as women do when diagnosed with the same. Moreover, other things associated with infertility such as medication side effects, money worries, and uncertain outcomes all add to infertility-related stress.

Moreover, patients do not just have to depend on doctors to handle their emotional and mental problems. They can very well fight them on their own. There are a plethora of methods with the help of which they can do that. Some of these methods include Yoga, exercise, breathing exercises, meditation, following a hobby, volunteering for philanthropy and others to name a few. An important point to note here is that no treatment would work positively unless the patients them self are in a positive mindset or wish to improve. Hence, it is eventually in the hands of the patients to decide and move ahead in the right direction.

Why and When IVF- how do we know as couples

Depleted Ovarian Reserve: Ovarian Reserve is the compendium in which a particular number of eggs are present all the time. When the no. of eggs is insufficient in the pool, women face a lot of problems in getting pregnant. The principal reason behind depleted ovarian reserve is the age of women. The ability to produce robust eggs decreases with the age and results in depleted ovarian reserve.

Blocked Fallopian Tubes:
Fallopian Tubes comes in handy for transporting mature eggs from ovary to womb. These are thin tubes that are present on each side of womb. Sometimes due to obstruction, egg cannot travel down the tube which results in blockage. It can happen on one or both sides. It is the cause of infertility in 40% of infertile women.

Failure of Insemination Cycles:
In IUI (Intrauterine Insemination), the sperms of male partner are washed and then prepared to be injected in uterus of female partner at the time of ovulation. When the IUI cycles continuously fail, it is a wise decision to move on and opt for IVF, rather than sticking with IUI.

Unexplained Infertility: IVF is largely regarded as the most potent and effective treatment for infertility. Hence, in cases of unexplained infertility, IVF is the fertility treatment that is most likely to succeed.

Male Infertility: If the Semen analysis of male partner reveals that he has less than 10 million motile sperm, it is advisable to opt for IVF.
